One of the surviving units after the first Robotech war.  The organization was a pet project of Senator Martin  So with his rise in power in the united earth government, so to where their rise in prominence after the departure of REF.

In a time when most of the worlds leaders where looking inward at securing the earth from dissidence.  It was predominantly a atmosphere based military.  Leaving space protection of the Shadow Force.  But as Senator Martin's ambitions grew so to did his military might.  secretly the southern cross, under his leadership, where developing space mecha and even heavy cruisers and carriers.  All this build up was in an effort to dispose of the Chancellor and his followers.

Early on they captured the Earth mecha factory, transporting it into hiding using new technology that they developed.  using the factory they made many new mecha designs and a number of new larger space ships. 

This was all taking place while Shadow Force was battling Chaos in the depths of space.

Southern cross was based out of Monument city near the ruins of Macross city  It consisted of a base of operations and a space port.

Recently the southern cross have been absorbed into the Shadow Force as Senator Martin and his government have been killed or are missing.
