Main way of moving through space for all ships over great distances.

The theory is that you space is not flat.  In actuality it ripples and flows like time or energy.  So you use that  to be able to jump between ripples.  

In other words you have a piece of paper and if you where to draw a line between two points on the paper that would be the distance you would have to travel.  but if you could bend the paper in half, then the two points could be right beside each other.  It's like adding another dimension.  So if your original line was 10" long and 10" took 10 years to travel.  But when you fold the paper the two locations are now side by side and it only takes moments to travel the distance.

Of course the trick is how to make it so you can "bend" the paper.  And so enters the protoculture...
